Made Possible Through the Support of Generous Philanthropic Contributions

“Enterprise makes a significant and lasting positive difference in the lives of poor and vulnerable people through innovative approaches such as impact investing.

"As a major leader in the impact investing industry, the Rockefeller Foundation is thrilled by Enterprise’s progress and momentum and will continue to help realize its potential.”

– Judith Rodin, President, The Rockefeller Foundation

In 2010 alone, Enterprise received nearly $14 million in grant funding. Our foundation partners target grants to support philanthropic, programmatic and geographic interests of mutual concern. They also provide grant funding for the general operating support that all nonprofit organizations require.

A far from inclusive list follows, demonstrating some of Enterprise’s most transformative grant relationships over the past quarter of a century.

Around the Country

  • Ford Foundation – Over the past 23 years, Enterprise and the Ford Foundation have developed one of the most strategic community development partnerships in the nation. During that time, the Ford Foundation has provided nearly $15M in grant support to Enterprise. The Ford Foundation’s support has been crucial in assisting us to increase the flow of public and private capital into the community development sector and to elevate affordable housing onto the national agenda at a time when more and more families and communities struggle to find the resources for their most basic needs.

  • The Kendeda Fund – The Kendeda Fund is a major supporter of Enterprise’s Green Communities and Design Leadership. They understand our commitment and leadership in these areas and have committed more than $7 million in operating and program support since 2008. The Kendeda Fund has also become a trusted advisor and thought partner of Enterprise as we expand the scope of both Enterprise Green Communities and Design Leadership.
  • The Kresge Foundation – When Enterprise launched our Enterprise Green Communities initiative in 2004, the Kresge Foundation was a founding supporter whose generous, multi-year matching grant was instrumental in helping Enterprise Green Communities exceed our first five-year goals. The Kresge Foundation remains one of the pillars of sustainable development in this country and one of our most relied upon partners. The Kresge Foundation’s total contributions exceed $5 million in support of Enterprise Green Communities and Design Leadership.
  • The Rockefeller Foundation – Enterprise and The Rockefeller Foundation began our philanthropic partnership in 1988. As a key partner in Enterprise’s work to expand the supply and quality of affordable housing in the United States and increase investment in low-income communities, The Rockefeller Foundation has committed almost $19 million in grant support. Since 2005, The Rockefeller Foundation has been one of our most generous and important partners working to rebuild Gulf Coast communities and put in place robust and lasting community development systems in the region.

In Local Communities

The work of Enterprise’s markets across the country is supported by charitable contributions from many local and regional foundations. These partnerships are critical to providing the program support necessary to implement our place-based strategies.

A small sampling of local foundation support includes:
  • The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation – The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation’s sustained support of Enterprise’s work in our nation’s capital has resulted in nearly $1.5 million in charitable contributions. Most recently, The Cafritz Foundation’s early and strong support of our Washington D.C. Green Communities Initiative was instrumental in accelerating the acceptance of sustainable building practices by the region’s affordable housing industry.

  • California Community Foundation Enterprise in Southern California's efforts to respond to the economic downturn and the severe shortfall of affordable homes has been receiving long-term and strategic support from the California Community Foundation. Through $1.3 million in pledged support, the California Community Foundation has helped Enterprise launch the New Generation Fund, produce and preserve affordable housing in the Los Angeles region, and strengthen the capacity of local affordable housing developers.

  • Cleveland Foundation – The Cleveland Foundation’s partnership with Enterprise’s Ohio market has supported nearly all of our programmatic priorities including Enterprise Green Communities, Housing First, the Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition, and an Enterprise Rose Architectural Fellowship. The Cleveland Foundation has become a relied upon and trusted partner of ours as we design and implement programs to support communities hardest hit by the economic recession and collapsing housing markets.

  • The San Francisco Foundation – Over the past several years, Enterprise in Northern California has entered into a close partnership with The San Francisco Foundation, whose multiple gifts are supporting efforts to respond to the foreclosure crisis in Bay Area communities, develop new Enterprise Green Communities programs and create a groundbreaking HOPE VI affordable housing development in San Francisco.
